About the project
Welcome! I created this website as a resource for teaching solo bassoon repertoire. You will have access to high quality pieces that are sequenced and divided into levels based on the range and musical skills required. I focused on repertoire appropriate for beginning and intermediate students since there are fewer resources for this level.
This website contains PDFs of repertoire or publisher information, duet parts for folk songs and many familiar melodies, high quality recordings for reference, and lesson plans for each piece. Students should be expected to review material, and master each solo before moving on to a new level.
I hope to improve the quality of bassoon instruction by providing resources for teachers and students, creating a more musical future generation of bassoonists. Enjoy!

About the author
Hello! I’m Dr. Laura McIntyre Lanier. I’m a mom, an officer in the United States Air Force Reserve, a bassoonist, and an educator. I hold a doctorate in bassoon performance and am a former member of the United States Air Force Band of the West. Currently, I serve as a Personnel officer and love the challenge of experiencing a new career and serving the country. I can honestly say that studying music will prepare you for absolutely anything! I love playing bassoon and sharing the joy of music. One of my favorite musical memories is performing with my wind quintet, QuinTexas. We won the silver medal at the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and First Prize in Winds at the 2015 Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition. As a soloist, I’ve won the 2016 American Prize and the 2015 Mid-Texas Symphony concerto competition. In addition to performing, I love teaching beginning bassoon and was the recipient of a University of Texas Continuing Fellowship--a competitive award granted by The University of Texas' College of Fine Arts--to pursue extensive research on beginning bassoon instruction. Part of that research culminated in creating this website! My wonderful husband is a fabulous guitar player, and the two of us have been making music together since we started dating. We have a toddler son and two Chihuahua-mixes.
